Central Georgia represents at GHSA state track meet on Saturday; four teams finish in top 5

          Athletes from more than a half dozen Central Georgia teams won GHSA state track titles on the final day of competition at four locations throughout the state.

          Overall, 14 girls teams and 23 boys teams out of 33 from Central Georgia scored points.

          Athletes and teams from Upson-Lee, Jasper County, Dublin, Bleckley County, Lamar County, GMC Prep, and Taylor County stood atop the podium on Saturday’s final day. Four – Upson-Lee’s boys, both GMC Prep teams, and Bleckley County’s girls – finished in the top five of their respective classifications.

          Bleckley County led Oglethorpe County in Class A/II girls by two points entering the final event, the 4x400 relay, but finished second in team standings, seven points behind Oglethorpe County, which won the event, Bleckley County finishing eighth.

          Ella Gibbs of Bleckley County was the top point-getter in girls A/Division I.

          Upson-Lee (Jayden Skelton, Bentavious Reviere, Keyuntae Colbert, and Akeondre Chaney) won the boys Class 3A 4x100 relay, and Jayden Skelton won the boys 100.

          Bleckley County’s girls took the A/I 4x800, while Dublin won the 4x200 and Lamar County 4x100.

          The Irish’s 4x200 team of Caitlyn Nesbitt, Azoria Lovett, Kayden Hope and Tahara Diallo won its third  its third straight title, narrowly missing setting a new program mark.

          Caitlyn Nesbitt improved on her personal best, and in the process won her heat in the GHSA Class A 100, and she finished second, as did the Dublin relay team of Ra’Nyya Washington, Azoria Lovett, Tahara Diallo and Nesbitt in the 4x100.

          Lamar County’s Makayla Watts captured the 100 in a personable best 12.17, and the 200 in 24.27, joining Bleckley County’s Ella Gibbs as a two-time winner this weekend. Dublin’s Nesbtt, who won her heat on Friday with a personal best, took second in the 100

          TayShawn Reeves of Jasper County took the boys A/I 300 hurdles.

          The GMC girls - Lily Ryan, Lana Wood, Ansley Adkinson, and Maria Knapp - won the A/II 4x800 relay in 11:09.62, and took second in the 4x400. GMC’s Knapp and Julian Council swept the girls and boys 800, Council with his second title of the weekend.

          Taylor County’s girls – Nashaila Sherman, Skyler Searcy, Alasia Montgomery, and Aaliyah Bunkley - are the 4x400 champs.
