Signings
Upson-Lee has been a little busy, with Ja’Driua White signing to play football at Mount Union (Division III power in Ohio), Evan Helms to play baseball at Andrew College, and Aleigha Harley and Leanna Fowler to play volleyball at Gordon State.
Bleckley County standout Jalexia Taylor signed to play women’s basketball at Albany Tech while Elisia Vickers is headed to play softball at Fort Valley State.
The Royals’ David Dent Jr. and Arealius English signed to play football at Manchester University, a Division III program in Indiana.

Houston County alum Jones tapped by Sun Belt
Georgia State’s Cam Jones, a sophomore from Houston County, made the All-Sun Belt first team at utility.
He leads the Panthers with a .369 batting average and 2.57 ERA, ranking seventh in the Sun Belt with five saves. He’s a semifinalist for the John Olerud Award as the nation’s best two-way player.
Former Warhawk, Bear help Columbus State to Super Regional
Columbus State of the Peach Belt Conference is headed to a Division II Super Regional, with some area help.
The Cougars have a pair of Central Georgians on the roster: Pitcher Chandler Ring of Houston County and outfielder Derek Wylie of Veterans.
Wylie is third on the team with a .340 average, 18 homers, and 64 RBI while Ring is fourth with a 3.89 ERA and .248 opponents batting average to go with a 5-0 record.

GMC JC softball set for national championship tourney
Talk about road trips.
The GMC junior college softball team is on one. A long one.
The Bulldogs flew the 2,100 miles to Yuma, Ariz., on the California border, for the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I national softball tournament.
The 16-team double-elimination tournament starts Tuesday at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex in Yuma.
The Bulldogs are the 16th seed, and face top seed Florida Southwestern Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The defending national champs are 49-5, and have won 27 of their its last 28 games, the loss to tournament No. 4 seed Seminole State. FSW was ranked first in the final regular-season poll, while the 38-21 Bulldogs were unranked. They’ve won 11 of their last 13 games.
The Bulldogs boast three Central Georgians on the roster: GMC freshman outfielder Mary Katherine Lawrence, Jones County sophomore utility Mackenzie Kilpatrick, and Piedmont freshman outfielder Ava Anglin.
Lawrence is second on the team with a .372 average and 51 RBI, and tied for second with 11 homers. Anglin has played in 44 games and is hitting .274, while Lawrence is hitting .200 with action in 41 games.
Lily Griffith leads GMC with a .386 average, and Makensey Sapp is first with 13 homers.
GMC reached the national tournament last year, losing 6-0 to Salt Lake CC and then 9-0 to Chattanooga State.
