Another honor for JMA alum Bryant

          If there’s an honor, Harrison Bryant has to be ready to add it to his resume.

          The John Milledge grade is now on the John Mackey Preseason Watch List for the top college tight end, as announced by the Friends of John Mackey on Friday.

          Bryant, a senior tight end, was just named as a pre-season all-conference pick in Conference USA.

          He started 12 games last year and was second on the team in catches and receiving yards.

          He has played in 35 games and improved hs numbers ear year, currently at 1,133 yards receiving and nine TD catches.

 

Braves Report

          Josh Donaldson found a way to lift the Braves again, roping a walk-off hit to left-center and bring in Ronald Acuna for a 4-3 win over Washington.

          Acuna had three hits, while Dansby Swanson, Nick Markakis, and Austin Riley had two hits each. It was Acuna’s 10th three-hit game this season, but only second multi-hit game of the month. It was Donaldson’s first walk-off since Septemebr of 2015.

          Julio Teheran was efficient in 5.2 innings, throwing 83 pitches with five strikeouts and no walks, with four hits and a run.

          Atlanta stranded 12 runners, and was 5 of 12 with runners in scoring position, the Braves outhitting the Nationals 12-7.

          Washington tied the game with a two-run homer by Victor Robles off Luke Jackson in the top of the ninth.

Macon wins at Savannah

          Calvin Estrada belted a two-run home to key a five-run third inning and lead Macon past Savannah 8-4 in Coastal Plain action.

          The Bacon got run-scoring singles from Daniel Harris and Josh Nowak and an RBI fly out from Ben McConnell to take control.

          Harris and Colton Yeager had three hits each, and Estrada and Nathan Schreckengost two each.

          Bill LeRoy (West Laurens) had one of Savannah’s eight hits.

          Chace Harris fans six and walked four in five innings of two-hit shutout ball to improve to 5-1. Savannah went through seven pitchers who fanned 12 with four walks to 10 and four for Macon.

          Macon hosts Gastonia on Saturday at 6 p.m.
