Georgia Southern’s Vildor tops Sun Belt preseason list

Senior defensive back Kindle Vildor is the Sun Belt’s preseason defensive player of the year, as announced days before the media gathering next week.

Teammate Raymond Johnson is a first-team defensive lineman and Monquavion Brinson a first-team DB. And Tyler Bass is the first-team kicker.

Georgia State offensive lineman Hunter Atkins made the second team on offense.

Troy running back B.J. Smith is the offensive player of the year.

Braves Report

There was plenty wrong with Kyle Wright’s return, which lasted 2.2 innings, 64 pitches, 33 strikes, seven runs, and three strikeouts and three walks.

Stephen Strasburg? Well, seven strikeouts and two walks plus eight hits in 5.1 innings, but more than that, he went 3-for-3 with five RBI, including a three-run homer in the third off Touki Toussaint en route to a 13-4 win at SunTrust.

That was part of an eight-run third. Wright and Toussaint teamed to give up 10 runs in five innings, while Strasburg had half of the Nats’ 14 strikeouts against only two walks.

Nick Markakis and Brian McCann, low in the lineup, had two hits each, and Ender Enciarte went 0 for 4 in his return from a long absence.
