Newcomb threw career-high 111 pitches: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K. After past 4 #Braves starters went 5 innings or less, he's first to go more since his 7 innings Friday./DOB
Â
Castillo retired the first 11 batters he faced and then allowed the Braves to produce four straight baserunners w/ 2 outs in the fourth. Suzuki and Culberson tied it with consecutive RBI singles./MB
Â
Gwinnett affiliate has 3 selections to the Triple-A All-Star game: lefty Kolby Allard, righty Evan Phillips and 1B Carlos Franco./DOB
Â
Newcomb is the only Braves' starter to throw a pitch in the sixth inning over an 8-game span going back to last Tuesday. He completed 7 IP Friday and got through six today, allowing three runs and seven hits (matches season-high)./MB
Â
Votto must not have wanted to deal with the heat and humidity of a noon start in ATL -- he just got tossed for arguing balls and strikes in the first inning after a called third strike a little high but in the strike zone./DOB
Â
By the way, today is exactly one month since Acuna took a tumble at Boston./DOB
Â
Santana's right pant leg remains in the game after getting nicked by Castillo's final pitch. The Reds starter retired 11 straight to open the game and then just one of the final nine batters faced./MB
Â
Freeman retired two of the five batters faced in the seventh and Duvall greets Winkler with a go-ahead two-run single. You can expect to see some changes to this bullpen before the Trade Deadline./MB
Â
Wes Parsons arrived at SunTrust Park around 9:30 a.m today. His first stint as a Major Leaguer lasted approximately six hours. By 3:30 p.m., he began packing after being told he'd been optioned back to Gwinnett./MB
