Soroka more than sharp in return, keys Atlanta shutout of New York

Wednesday's Braves Report

Soroka more than solid in return

Mike Soroka's return to the Braves offered no sluggishness, and he had a no-hitter through six in Atlanta's 2-0 afternoon win over the Mets.

It was just Soroka's fourth career start, and he outdid young standout Jacob deGrom. Soroka had been on the disabled list since May 17.

Freeman has now tallied five of his 14 home runs within his past 27 at-bats/MB

Soroka, at 20 years, 313 days, is the youngest pitcher in the franchise's modern era to allow one hit or fewer in a start of any length, and 18th major leaguer 20 or younger since World War II to allow one or not hits in a start of 6 1/3 innings or more/DOB

Making his first start since May 12, Soroka has faced the minimum and kept the Mets hitless through six innings (64 pitches). He was targeted to throw 85-90 pitches today/MB

Snitker said Soroka wouldn't have pitched past 7th inning even if no-hitter was intact. Had only pitched into 5th in one of his 2 rehab starts and the up-and-down of so many innings was the determing factor to Snitker, not pitch count/DOB

deGrom retired the first 10 batters he faced before Swanson drilled a 95 MPH FB the other way for a double. Swanson is now hitting .359 (14-for-39) vs. 95+mph. He hit .170 (9-for-53) against such pitches last year/MB

Ender Inciarte's 2 stolen bases Tuesday gave him a majors-leading 20 and left him just two shy of the career-best he set in 2017/DOB
