Henley stays in the Heritage hunt
Russell Henley lost a little ground and is now in the the crowded collection of contenders at the RBC Heritage.
Henley shot a 1-under 70 in the third round at Hilton Head, falling into a tie for seventh with Scottie Scheffler, still only four shots behind new leader Si Woo Kim.
Henley actually had the highest score of the day among the top two dozen players, and has gone up four and two shots since opening with a 64.
Byeong Hun An shot up 41 spots with an day best 8-under. Will Zalatoris climbed 23 spots with a 7-under.
Henley was steady all day, if not overly aggressive, with pars on Nos. 5 and 6 and the bogey on No. 10, which he birdied on Friday. His next par putts were of 20 inches, a yard and a half, 14 inches, two feet, 20 inches, three feet, seven feet, and three feet.
Henley entered Saturday ranked 50th in third-round average at 69.7, and is 23rd in the fourth round at 69.14. He has improved to 37t h on par-5 holes, averaging 4.56.
For the weekend, he’s fourth in scrambling, ninth in shots gained around the green, 10th in feet of putts made, but 70th in average driving distance.
Henley and defending champ Scheffler tee off at 1:25 p.m. Sunday in the fourth-to-last group.
