Macon RBI holds over Dodgers in RBI World Series
As is the case when the big-league Dodgers and Braves play, things got hairy in the Nike RBI World Series in Vero Beach, Florida between the Macon Braves RBI and Dodgers Dreamteam squad.
But Macon got clutch bullpen play at the end and held on for an 8-7 win, improving to 2-1.
The Braves got early control with a 7-1 lead after two innings, and seemed set for a fairly convincing win, until the Dodgers put up 4 in the top of the fifth.
Chadburn Woolcock came on with two outs and the bases loaded, the Dodgers down by one. He induced a game-ending fielder’s choice grounder to shortstop Justice Morrison, who flipped to second baseman Teyton Braswell to end it.
Amir Harris had 2 of Macon’s 8 hits, while Jacob Krivanek drove in 2 runs, Macon getting 2-run games from Morrison, Harris, and Woolcock.
Macon plays Durham at 10 a.m. Friday. Durham, in Pool A, tied New Orleans 5-5, and beat Cleveland 3-1 and Passaic, N.J., 7-2.
Henley sitting out Wyndham
Up until the days before the deadline, it appeared Russell Henley would compete in this weekend’s Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.
But the tournament quietly announced on July 29 that he and Ben An had withdrawn.
Henley’s father Chapin died on July 26, with his service in Columbus on July 30, three days before the deadline to be in the field. The PGA Tour was off after the 3M Open (July 25-28) for the Olympics.
Henley has four straight top-10 finishes at the Wyndham, including a tie for second last year.
The PGA playoffs start next weekend with the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, where Henley finished tied for sixth last year.
