Macon RBI puts up huge fight, falls in epic 12-inning game
Durham had chances galore to put Macon away in the Nike RBI World Series quarterfinal/semifinal game, and couldn’t for a long time.
Macon kept answering, but the answers ran out.
A routine single to center was followed by a misplayed fly to left that allowed Neil Howard – who reached on the two-out single – to score from first for a 6-5 win over Macon in 12 innings.
Macon – outhit by eight and stymied by four errors - was in a big hole early, trailing 5-1 after two innings. Pitchers took over for the next three innings, and then Macon changed the game with four runs in the top of the sixth to tie it.
Four straight walks brought in a run, Justice Morrison added two with a single, and the tying run strolled in on an error.
Macon bats were quiet again, and Durham stranded runners in four ensuing innings.
Jayden Reese and Peyton Nauss each collected two hits for Macon, while Morrison and Chris Frazier, Jr each drove in two runs.
