Jones County all over the first two weeks of Macon Touchdown Club players of the week, joined by Mount de Sales, Northeast, Stratford

           Jones County is 2-0, and the first two week’s of Macon Touchdown Club honorees gives a hint why.

          Three Greyhounds are among the six with standout performances. They’ll be recognized at the club’s first meeting, on Sept. 9, with radio host Bill King as the speaker, followed a week later by Macon native and Samford head coach Chris Hatcher.

          Week 1 back: Sophomore quarterback Zavion Deshazier of Mount de Sales was good on 16 of 21 passes fof 173 yards and a score while running for 175 yards and four touchdowns – 348 yards in total offense and five TDs – in he Cavs’ 40-27 win over Loganville Christian.

          Lineman: Jones County senior linebacker Daniel Hawk was just that from his linebacker spot, playing in all but four defensive snaps with 13 tackles and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown in the 41-26 win over Veterans.

          Special teams: Senior wideout and kick returner Jaivon Solomon of Jones County took two kickoffs back for 181 yards, including a 94-yarder for a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 71 yards and two scores in the win over Veterans.

          Week 2 back: Senior quarterback Devin Edmonds hit on 16 of 21 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns, adding 22 rushing yards for a night of 306 yards of total offense in the 48-19 win over Woodland.

          Lineman: Senior tackle Zantavious Towles of Northeast graded out at 87 percent, with three pancake blocks, as the Raiders rolled to a 36-14 win over Southwest behind 328 yards rushing.

          Special teams: Senior kick Stebin Horne of Stratford went straight to the ice bath after the Eagles 56-0 win over Calvary Christian, after being perfect on six extra points and nine kickoffs for touchbacks, to go with field goals of 31 and 42 yards.
