A Gold medal has settled in Central Georgia in 2008, 2012, and 2020.
And Vincent Hancock is in action Friday seeing if he can added 2024 to his impressive resume.
The Gatewood graduate and former Eatonon resident took first in menβs skeet in those Olympics, finishing 15th in 2016. The winner of more than a dozen world championships continues to compete in qualifying on Friday.
Hancock will have a little extra motivation. His father Craig Hancock passed away in November.
The 35-year-old father of four and Army veteran, now living in Texas, has coached several of his current teammates.
βMy expectation for every event that I go to is always gold,β Hancock said last month in interview with Reuters. β"It may not be what I get, but at the same time, that's what I'm going for. That's what I'm actively training every day for."
Hancock hopes to join a list of Olympians this year racking up record golds. He is vying to become the sixth athlete to win four golds in the Olympics in the same individual event.
The finals are at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
