Henley surges higher at Sony

          Momentum? Russell Henley has some.

The Stratford grad ended his third round of the Sony Open in style with a superb birdie and enters the final round tied for 13th and only five shots back.

Henley turned in a 4-under day to go 9-under for the tournament, with his second straight 66.

A 283-yard tee shot left him in a left-side bunker on 18 for the second straight day. His second shot sailed past the hole into rough beyond the green.

Then he chipped out to just right of the hole, and tapped in from six feet for a round-ending birdie rather than a second straight bogey and third for the day, or worse.

Henley birdied four of the front nine, and two on the back nine. He is tied for first in putts, first in shots gained around the green, tied for seventh in sand saves, and a respectable tied for 24th in driving distance.

He tees off at 2:10 p.m., with Nick Taylor and S.H. Kim. A hefty 82 players made the cut.
