Henley barely misses bogey-free round

Russell Henley was cruising along pretty good through 17 holes, with four birdies and the rest pars.

Could he finish the fairly rare bogey-free round?

          Almost.

That stretch ended on the 18th hole of the day, but Henley still finished 3 under for the day and in a tie for 45th at the John Deere Classic in Illinois.

Henley sits at 5 under for the tournament, which had a cut line of 4 under.

His tee shot on 18 went into the right-side rough, but he escaped and faced a nearly 16-footer for par, only to come up just short and right.

There are big groups tied up all over the leaderboard, at 10, 18, 29, and 45, with 69 players making the cut.

Forest City rolls Macon early

A seven-run first was enough for Forest City in an 11-5 win over Macon in Coastal Plain action between West Division contenders.

Forest City improved to 17-9 and Macon fell to 16-11.

The lead was 10-2 after three.

Antonio Brown and Connor Hicks had two hits each, half of Macon’s output, Hicks with a double and homer.

Macon hosts Highpoint on Saturday, visits Forest City on Monday and hosts the Owls on Tuesday.
