The Panthers sent 12 batter to the plate in the six-run fifth, getting a double and homer from Colton Ginn, and two-hit nights from Carson Shaw and Connor Christian. Perry (23-6/14-3) grabbed the second seed with the win, Ben McDow striking out 17 in the six-inning one-hitter.

Veterans’ Wylie rolling at Columbus State

Former Veterans standout Derek Wylie is doing familiar things at Columbus State.

Hitting. A lot.

The ex-Warhawk has one Peach Belt player of the week honor so far this season, and is among Division II’s top home-run hitters with 14, leading the PBC in that stat, plus 23rd in average and fourth in RBI.

Wylie’s college career started at Gordon State, where he hit .299 with seven homers and 41 RBI as a sophomore two years ago.

Last year, he earned All-Peach Belt honors after hitting .342 with 19 homers and 67 RBI.

The Cougars are 27-12 overall and 14-10 in PBC play after taking two of three from Augusta over the weekend. Columbus State visits Georgia College at the end of the month in the final regular-season series.
