This edition combines scouting reports with predictions.
Class 6A
Veterans, 4-1, at No. 7 Thomas County Central, 5-0, 6:30 p.m.
Scouting report: Former Jones County head coach Justin Rogers has the Yellow Jackets 5-0 for the first time since 2007 in his first season. Veterans is 4-1 for the first time since 2019. The Yellow Jackets pass for 275.8 yards a game and run for 176.8. The Warhawks counter with 297.4 and 124.2. Veterans’ defense, though, has given up 114 points, to 47 for TCC.
Prediction: Now comes the serious stuff: region play. Can the Warhawks maintain some momentum against a ranked team? Both teams are off to better starts than usual, but TCC is good at home, 9-1 in the last 10.
TSR pick: Thomas County Central by 17
No. 6-II Charlton County, 3-2, at Dublin, 2-2, cancelled
GIAA
Tattnall, 2-3, at Frederica, 1-4, 5 p.m.
Scouting report: The Trojans have played one of the toughest schedules in GIAA, with the three losses coming to quality GHSA Class A teams. Cam Person is one of three main rushers, third in yards but first with 8 touchdowns, three more than leading rusher Antone Johnson. Brayden Smith may be the best athlete on the field. Three of Frederica’s losses have been by 41-12, 63-13, and 45-6.
Prediction: How about an afternoon prepping for a dinner-time game on St. Simons? Some Tattnall parents may call in “absent” on Thursday while the kids are back in school. But both groups will be happy.
TSR pick: Tattnall by 24
