Holiday week, and high school all-star football week, with Central Georgians

          It’s a holiday week, and that means some high school football all-star games, too.

          The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association hosted a sophomore and junior all-star game as well as a flag-football game at Glynn Stadium in Brunswick.

          The Georgia Elite Classic hosted middle school, eighth grade, freshmen vs. sophomores, junior, and senior games at Barron Stadium in Rome on Thursday.

          In the freshmen/sophomores game (all based on posted rosters): Houston County QB A.J. Hill, Peach County OL Peyton Joseph, Houston County LB Weston Ard.

          Hill threw a TD pass of 17 yards to Zeke Whittington ijn the sophomores’ 24-7 win. Hill went 9 of 13 for 76 yards, and ran twice for 23 yards. Ard had an assist for the freshmen.

          In the junior game: Houston County RB Ryan Taleb, Warner Robins QB/WR Isiah Canion, Houston County WR Ricky Johnson, Tattnall OL Web Davidson, and Houston County athlete Kale Woodburn.

          Taleb had a 12-yard TD run and Canion a 41-yard scoring catch in the American’s 14-10 win. Taleb ran seven times for 33 yards while Canion caught four passes for 94 yards for the winning team.

          In the senior game: Putnam County WR Darrell Bland Jr., Mary Persons OL/DL Timarion Grier, Jasper County DL Cedrion Stone.

          Stone had an assist.

          The area had two players in the GACA girls flag football game, Rutland’s Ciara Passmore and Dodge County’s Altierra Gooch.

          Dodge County’s Clint Sanders and Christina Hawkins led the staff for one team. No stats were kept or posted, but Gooch had a pick-6 in her team’s 12-0 win.

          Rosters for the other two games weren’t posted, and were only accessible by scanning a code with a cell phone. No stats were kept or posted.

          The Minority Coaches Association of Georgia hosted three games on Thursday at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta in its Senior Bowl Classic Border Wars, with Douglas County vs. South Fulton, Clayton County vs. Henry County, and DeKalb Couty vs. Atlanta Public Schools.

          It has two more games left. The Georgia Junior Bowl is Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Lakewood, with Central Georgians on Team Dedication (Mary Persons OL Jyvon Tatum) and Team Commitment (Southwest WRs DeJuandre Riggins and Carmelo Mays, Mary Persons RB Duke Watson, and Warner Robins OL Nicholas Reeves).

Friday at 11 a.m. at Lakewood, Bibb County faces Team Empowerment.

          No rosters were posted, but here is Bibb County’s roster. The game is listed as part of the Senior Bowl Classic heading, but includes underclassmen.
