Veteran broadcaster Wes Durham to speak at Macon Touchdown Club
Longtime Peach State broadcaster Wes Durham is Monday night’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30.
GHSA executive director Robin Hines is next week’s speaker, followed by ESPN/SEC host Dari Nowkah to end the season.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will speak at the yearly jamboree in March.
Durham grew up in Chapel Hill, N.C., where his father Woody was the voice of the Tar Heels for 40 years. He graduated from Elon, and went on to broadcast at Marshall, Radford, and Vanderbilt.
He moved to Georgia Tech in 1995, and became the department’s director of broadcasting two years later.
In 2004, Durham took over the play by play duties for the Atlanta Falcons, and remained with Georgia Tech until 2013. He joined Fox Sports South to handle ACC games in several sports.
Upon leaving Tech, Durham had won the Georgia Sportscaster of the Year eight times, and has won the Furman Bisher Award from the Atlanta Sports Council.
He joined the ACC Network as a prime play-by-play caller, and teamed with Mark Packer for a network sports talk show that ran for more than 1,000 episodes before being pulled last summer.
