Baseball

ACE 4, Veterans 3, 11 inn.

          Lem Thompson reached to open the top of the 11th on a dropped third strike, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on Gavin West’s single to left. Thompson came in with the lead run on a Blake Smith’s bunt sacrifice. Fisher Timms then needed seven pitches to retire the Warhawks in order in the bottom half. West had four hits and two RBI, and J.D. Lewis three hits for the Gryphons. Thompson, Zane Johnson, and Trevor Derrick added two hits each. Ty Tyson and Tanner O’Neal had two hits each for the Warhawks. The Warhawks turned a 1-6-3 triple play in the fourth.

Crawford County 5, Mount de Sales 3, 9 inn.

          It was a full ninth inning. Brennan Hudson singled for the Eagles to open the top half, and advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on Blake Bishop’s bunt, scoring on an error on the play, Bishop erased at third. Kenneth Taylor reached on an error and Devin Eubanks walked, Levi Hammock adding an insurance run with a single to center. The Cavs got the bases loaded in the bottom half, but Bishop got a game-ending grounder. Hammock had three of the Eagles hits, Crawford County surviving five errors. Bricen Smith had two hits for the Cavs.

Crisp County 6, Mary Persons 2

          Eric Snow and Caden Swancey had two hits each for the Bulldogs, Crisp County sealing it with three in the sixth.

Jasper County 14, Rockdale County 2

          The Hurricanes put the 4.5-inning game away early, with eight runs in the first two innings. Justyn Fields had three hits and Tristan Humphries two, Baylor Edge driving in four runs and Graeme Williams two. Hunter Hayes and Williams teamed for a three-hitter.

Jones County 15, Stockbridge 0

          The Greyhounds finished it in five, with 10 runs in the first three innings. Jacob Thompson, Bryce Harrison, and Austin Lowe combined on the three-hitter. Aiden Payne, Thompson, and Tucker Mix had two hits each, Thompson with three RBI and Payne and Mix with two each, along with Ben Gordon.

Lee County 15, Northside 1; Lee County 10, Northside 5

          Seven runs in the first got Lee County going in the opener, and eight runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap clinched it. Northside’s Hunter Johnson had three hits in the first game, Gabe Bautista two in the nightcap.

Perry 10, West Laurens 9

          The Panthers (18-2) went bonkers in the bottom of the seventh, down 9-4. They scored six runs, getting the walk-off single from Tyler Newhouse – who led off the inning by reaching on an error - to score T Tristen Freis with the game-winner. The Panthers got RBI hits in the seventh from Butler (two RBI), Long, and Rucker, also getting on base with a walk, error on a steal, and dropped third strike. Newhouse, Dylan Butler, and Braydon Long had two hits each, Long with three RBI, and Butler and Freis with two each. Matthew Mebane had four hits and three RBI for the Raiders, with two hits from Carson Estep (three RBI), Tyler Franks (two RBI), and Colton Scott.

Rutland 20, Westside 8

          Rutland trailed 2-1 after one and it was tied at 5 after two, but  the visitors went off with six in the third and three runs in the next three innings. Both teams had six errors, leading to four unearned runs by Rutland and 13 by Westside. Trey Lawson, Connor wood, Jonathan Blanks had two hits each for Rutland, Blanks with two RBI.

Upson-Lee 12, Jackson 0

          Austin Hendricks and Beau Ellington teamed for the road shutout, a two-hitter. Hendricks drove in six runs on three hits. Steven Marriage had three hits, with two each from Jordan Wainwright, Ellington, and Jake Willis.

Vidalia 14, East Laurens 3

          Madelyn Davis did damage for the Vikings with four goals, joined by Kendall Emener. Emmie DeZoort had three assists and Claire Harrison one.
