          The Cavs take third in the region, the Vikings fourth.

FPD 78, Stratford 72

          The Vikings took control early in the fourth and then held off the host Eagles to win the region tournament, doing so without head coach Gavin Chapman, currently sidelined because of COVID-19. Jack Miscall had 21 for Stratford, which got 16 from Khalil Green, 15 from Isaiah Josey and 10 from Ben Baxley.

          The Cavs are third in the region.

Crawford County 11, Howard 2

          An eight-run first was plenty for Crawford County, which got two hits from Trace Hodges. Winning pitcher Levi Hammock struck out seven.

FPD 7, Coahulla Creek 5; FPD 13, Coahulla Creek 4

          Senior Hudson Mimbs did some work, with four homers.

Houston County 5, North Cobb Christian 2; Houston County 6, East Paulding 2

          The Bears’ three-run second broke a tie in the opener, and they held on, despite being outhit 4-2. Pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts, 10 by Houston County’s Brodie Chestnutt in four innings, Gate Harrelson finishing up. Two walks, then two outs, a walk, error, walk, and passed ball led to the Bears’ three in the second. Andrew Dunford and Chris Le each had two-run hits in the key five-run fifth for Houston County in the second game, breaking a 1-aa tie. Harrelson, Trent Ringer, and Lee had two hits each, Dunford and Lee with two RBI apiece. Ringer, Carson McFadden, and Dunford pitched, Ringer and Carson teaming for nine strikeouts in six combined innings.

Jasper County/Monticello 6, Mount de Sales 4

          The Purple Hurricanes answered the Cavs’ three-run first with a four-run second, and a one-run third with two in the fourth. Four errors led to four unearned runs, Jasper County managing only two hits against four MdS pitchers, who walked 12 and struck out 10. Tristan Humphries scored twice for Jasper County, and Drew Senn twice for Mount de Sales.

Jones County 12, Jackson 0; East Coweta 15, Jones County 5

Mary Persons 13, Morgan County 12

          Jaden Bankston’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded gave the Bulldogs the second-game win over Morgan County.

Perry 8, Northside 2; Perry 5, Veterans 0

          A four-run first and two-run second sent the Panthers on their way, helped by four Northside errors. Tanner Knowles had three hits and Tristen Freis two for Perry, while Gabe Bautista and Brayden Smith had two hits each for Northside. Jonah Wynn and Daniel Vandivear did the mound work for Perry. Jackson Mullis and Ben McDow combined for a one-hit shutout against the Warhawks, who gave up three unearned runs. Freis and Lane Rucker had two hits for the Panthers.

Stratford 10, Westminster 0; Stratford 13, Aquinas 3

          Lawson Cole threw a five-inning no-hitter in the opener, with 10 strikeouts and a walk. Stetson Hatcher and Lane Cole drove in two runs each, and Micah Takac and Jimmy Bowden scored twice. The Eagles put up eight in the second inning of the nightcap for an 11-0 lead. Waldon Davis, Nate Slappey, and Takac had two hits each. Jimmy Bowden drove in three runs, with two RBI each from Davis, Hatcher, and Slappey. Takac fanned six in four innings of one-hit pitching.

Vidalia 4, Bleckley County 2, 8 innings

          Vidalia scored one in the top of the seventh, and Bleckley County forced extras with two in the bottom half only for the Indians to score two in the top of the eighth. The Royals, who had four errors, managed a two-out single in the bottom half. J.R. Fordham had three hits at leadoff, half of the Royals’ hits, en route to 11 left on base. Starter Brody Little struck out eight with no walks in six innings.
