The decreased wrestling season has decreased almost nothing for Adam Lamar.

The Central wrestling standout finished fourth last year in the GHSA state traditional wrestling tournament in the 285-pound weight class, losing in the semifinal and then having to forfeit in the match for third place.

Lamar gets a chance to erase that memory and stand on the top step of the podium when he wrestles for the state championship Thursday night at the Macon Coliseum.

Lamar improved to 45-0 with three pins on Wednesday, in 1:32, 1:30, and 3:04.

He’ll take on Jaxx Knight of Sonoraville in the finals. Both had first-round byes. Knight (18-1) went on to win by falls in 1:37, 5:51, and 3:06, two seconds off of Lamar’s semifinal win pin.

Sonoraville won state team titles in 2019 and 2020.

Lamar’s teammate Ja”vontez Moss (126) is still alive, as is Mary Persons’ Elijah Shannon.

The Wednesday afternoon session was girls only, with championships and consolations for AA and A coming Wednesday night.

Class 4A goes Thursday morning and Class 6A in the afternoon, with 3A and girls in the evening with consolations and finals. Class 5A is Friday morning and 7A in the afternoon, with 4A and 6A in the evening with consolations and finals.

Saturday, Classes 5A and 7A finish up, starting at 9 a.m.

In girls action, Baldwin’s Catherine Mullis at 132 and Northside’s Beyonce McColumn at 172 are in the finals. The girls section is all one classification.

Still alive: Veterans’ Evelyn Kissell at 112 and Samantha Godfrey at 197, plus Perry’s Azariah Mobley (162) and Lamar County’s Lea English (172) are still alive.

Veterans is tied for fourth with 67 points, behind Chastatee’s 99 points. Baldwin is tied for 18th.
