Area/region team wrestling action gets going Friday

          The very abbreviated GHSA wrestling season picks up steam this weekend with area/region team duals throughout the state.

          The top four teams in each area/region qualify for the state tournament, which is Jan. 30 at seven school sites: Parkview, Lassiter, Locust Grove, Jefferson, Cherokee Bluff, Lamar County, and Trion. Tickets are $15.

          The qualifying tournaments, a new round, are next weekend at the area/region champ site.

          The area traditional tournaments are Feb. 5-6 in which the top three wrestlers in each weight class move on to state.

          Central Georgia teams hosting action this weekend: Perry, Upson-Lee, Lamar County, and Crawford County.

          Area teams hosting in the traditional round Feb. 5-6: West Laurens, Upson-Lee, and Lamar County.
