Thursday's Daily News 'n Notes: Mercer's Cronic back in the day; Twiggs County's Dennard honored; signings at FVSU and GC; and more

Thursday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media. Updates will be noted, so check back.

Savannah takes out Macon again

The good news for Macon: The Bacon finally scored.

The bad news: Savannah scored eight runs again.

Savannah led from the start and put away a close game with four runs in the ninth to beat Macon 8-3 at Luther Williams Field in Coastal Plain League action.

Macon’s home opener consisted of only three hits per team, as well as 22 strikeouts and 17 walks. And only one error.

The Bananas went up 2-0 in the fifth, and the teams traded two-run eighths. Savannah put four of the first five batters of the top of the ninth on base, and scored the first two runs on a passed ball and then a bases-loaded walk. Macon got one back in the bottom of the ninth.

Nick Clamo had two hits for Savannah. Dalton Smith, the third of seven pitches, got the loss.

Macon is at Lexington County on Friday and hosts its intersquad counterpart, the Eggs, at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

As of Thursday night, the Bacon website had no information on the Eggs and how that roster will be compiled.
