Cross country state championships, GHSA and GISA: Brentwood repeats, good day for area GHSA runners
Jones County, Veterans, Bleckley County, ACE, GMC earn top-10 cross country finishes
Central Georgia didn’t get an individual or team state champion at the GHSA cross country meet on Saturday, but some area teams and competitors did have a good day.
ACE’s girls came the closest, finish second in Class A/Public, 19 points behind Armuchee. The Gryphons had four runners finish in the top 20.
Bleckley County had two girls and one boy finish in the AA top 10. Warner Robins, Jones County, ACE, and GMC all had individual top-10 finishes.

Brentwood girls take GISA AA cross country title
Depth was the key for Brentwood’s girls, who topped the five-team field for the GISA AA state title Saturday at Middle Georgia State.
Brentwood was led by Lauren Hood’s seventh-place finish, just ahead of Anne Marie Sheppard and Emma Boyen, as well as Gatewood’s Ansleigh Hillin, all finishing in the top 10.
The War Eagles also had Ellie Atkinson and Emerson Sheppard finish 14-15.
Trinity Christian finished second in AAA boys with 62 points, trailing Westminster with 39. John Milledge was sixth.
John Milledge was fourth in AAA girls with 141 points, behind winner Westminster’s 51.
Twiggs Academy’s Smith Jacob was 14th, the only area AA boys finisher in the top 20. Brentwood’s boys were fourth in AA.
Trinity Christian’s boys had five finish in the top 20: 5. Nolan Lane; 6. Jack Miller; 12. Conner Street; 19. Conner Smith; 20 Van Smith.
Sophia Toler of Trinity Christian finished 12th in Class AAA girls, while Kenzie Veal of John Milledge finished 19th.
