Qualifying field cut in half at Mercer Tennis Classic
The top seed in qualifying as well as a former champion advanced Monday in qualifying at the Mercer Tennis Classic.
Genie Bouchard, a former Wimbledon finalist topped Alexa Glatch in two sets (6-2, 6-2), while former tournament champ Kayla Day had to come back to beat Maiar Sherif Ahmed Abdelaziz 7-6, 7-6. Varvara Lepchenko, another tournament champ, won with a pair of 6-2s.
Qualifying continues Tuesday at John Drew Smith Tennis Center with main draw action beginning Wednesday.
