Sunday's Central Georgia Daily News 'n Notes: Georgia College’s Smith moving on; Macon loses; Braves Report (win in 12, and more)

Sunday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.

Georgia College’s Smith leaving for Flagler

Maurice Smith played at Georgia College, and then was an assistant coach for men’s boss Terry Sellers and women’s boss John Carrick.
Then he took over the women’s basketball program when Carrick resigned nearly a decade ago.
But after almost two decades with the Bobcats, Smith is moving to Florida.
Flagler College announced his hiring Sunday afternoon. More in The Latest Coverage

Macon falls to Savannah

Macon and Savannah finally got some nice weather to play (although apparently almost no media outlets knew they were playing Sunday).
The Bacon might’ve liked more rain.
Savannah improved to 4-1 against Macon this season with a 6-2 win at home. The Bananas scored two in the first and the Bacon tied it in the fifth. But the hosts put it away with four in the eighth.
Macon managed only three hits, half as many as Savannah, whose pitchers struck out 15 Bacon against only four walks.
Macon is at Lexington County on Tuesday.

Braves Report

Atlanta, held to a run for eight innings and none after the first, needed a huge ninth to tie it and force extra innings, and then won 7-6 in 12 on Ozzie Albies’ triple followed by Matt Joyce’s single. Josh Tomlin, Atlanta’s eighth pitcher, gave up a one-out single in the bottom half and got two quick strikeouts to end it.
Atlanta stranded three more runners than Miami and was outhit by four, but the Marlins bullpen – well, Sergio Romo, actually - imploded in the ninth. Both teams scored once in the 10th. Joyce led Atlanta with three hits, Ronald Acuna with three RBI.
