Westside alum Moore leaving Texas Tech

The end of Khavon Mooreā€™s senior season at Westside didnā€™t change the interest of Texas Tech, and he became the Red Raidersā€™ highest-rated recruit.

And now heā€™s leaving, having reportedly entered the NCAAā€™s transfer portal.

Moore Tweeted Thursday night that he was leaving with ā€œa heavy heart,ā€ citing family reasons, thanking the school and its fan base.

There was some speculation after Moore displayed some unhappiness that he didnā€™t get any playing time after appearing to be back to 100 percent and was ā€œjust waiting on an opportunity.ā€ That Tweet on Feb. 5 was deleted, and head coach Chris Beard called it a mistake.

Speculation grew when he didnā€™t make a trip to Oklahoma, and  Beard had no comment, but promised one in a few days. The school then announced it was shutting Moore down the rest of the season ā€“ which ended in the national championship game ā€“ and would seek a medical redshirt.

Moore said when he signed with Texas Tech in February 2018 that he picked Texas Tech over Oklahoma, Mercer, Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson, among others.
