Georgia College, Mercer home for quality Tuesday opponents

          There will be a major influence of Houston County when Middle Georgia State visits Georgia College on Tuesday in college baseball.

          Georgia Southern visits Mercer at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, too.

          Perry has standout infielder Cal Gentry at Georgia College, and pitchers Luke Parks and Drew Martens at MGSU.

          The Knights also have outfielder Tyler Flood, Northside; infielder Blake Jackson, Houston County; and pitcher Preston Sparks, Veterans.

Georgia College is 15-12 while MGSU is 23-7. First pitch is 4 p.m.

          The Knights also have infielder Colby Owens of East Laurens and pitcher William Wethington of Central Fellowship.

          Jackson is fourth with a .340 average, first with nine homers and 38 RBI. Parks is batting .325, Flood 229, and Owens .118.

          Gentry, a junior infielder, is second for the Bobcats with a .422 average, has six steals in seven tries, and leads Georgia College with 25 runs.

          At OrthoGeorgia Park, Georgia Southern brings a 12-11 record to town.

          The Eagles are 4-2 in the Sun Belt and off a series win over Little Rock, winning 15-10 on Sunday.

          Georgia Southern has wins over Auburn, West Virginia, College of Charleston, and Georgia this season, to go with the 13-3 win over Mercer on March 6.

          Steven Curry is hitting .358 and Nolan Tressler .338.

          Mercer is 12-13 overall after going 1-2 at home against UNC Greensboro, matching the Spartans with 15 runs in three games.

          Kel Johnson is on a streak of reaching base in 24 straight games, and tops the Southern Conference with 12 homers and 33 RBI.

          He is one of four Bears hitting above .300, led by Angelo DiSpigna’s .344.

          A couple of Central Georgians are on Georgia Southern's roster.

          Tattnall’s Blake Simmons has battled injuries all season and hasn't played. Dodge County's Chandler Davis, a freshman catcher, has played in seven games.

          Veterans grad Leyton Pinckney has played in 19 games and is hitting .239 with a homer.

          Tanner Hall of Houston County is 2-3 with a .740 ERA in seven games. Tattnall’s Matt Blair has pitched in five games, no decisions, and catcher Bailey Vickers of Washington County
