Mercer women make mid-major poll

          Finally, Mercer’s women have cracked the CollegeInsider.com mid-major top 25, in the final spot, this week. The Bears, who host Furman on Thursday and Wofford on Saturday (regular-season finale), have 60 points, one ahead of Buffalo and 16 less than Stephen F. Austin.

          Former A-Sun rival Florida Gulf Coast is third and Belmont 13th, with Gonzaga first. The Bears enter the final weekend with an RPI of 153.

          The conference tournament starts on March 7 in Asheville, with top-seeded Mercer in action to open the tournament at 11 a.m. against the eighth seed.

 

Signings update, Tattnall version

          A pair of Tattnall football players will now become rivals in the Southern Conference.

          Quarterback Miles Morris signed Wednesday with Samford, while defensive end and third-team All-Central Georgia tight end Gavin Whitfield is headed down the road to Mercer.
