Marcayll Jones caught four touchdown passes for the Demons, who never trailed. The Bears pulled within 14-7 late in the first quarter, only for the Demons to counter with a score a little bit later in the quarter en route to a 28-14 halftime lead. Quarterback Dylan Fromm passed for more than 400 yards.

Class 5A

Jones County 50, Locust Grove 14

Jake Langford got the Greyhounds going with a pick-6, and Evan West added a field goal for a 10-0 first-quarter lead. Matthew Sheffield scored from 30 yards out, but soon enough, Jones County’s lead was 17-14. Hunter Costlow hooked up with Jontavis Robertson for a 62-yard touchdown, and that got the Greyhounds going toward the rout.

Class 4A

Howard 16, West Laurens 10

West Laurens brought the quality defensive reputation to Henderson, but it was Howard’s D that came up big. The Huskies scored the game-winner when De’Andre Shelton recovered a loose ball - off a high punt snap – in the end zone. Howard then came up with stops on third and fourth down – Shelton with the latter play – to stymie West Laurens’ final try. The Raiders took the lead on a 14-yard TD pass from A.J. Mathis – who missed several plays with an upper-body injury – to E.J. Holmes. Howard got a 29-yard Elizabeth Rodenroth field goal. West Laurens got a field goal from Cam Coup, but Howard tied it after a 40-yard gain from QB Quintan Sewall set up Javarsia Meadow’s end-around 3-yard score with 2:59 left in the first half to tie it. The Raiders missed a field goal in the final seconds of the half. Sewell ran for 89 yards, while Jeremiah Kelly added 56 and Jarquavious Coleman 44 yards. Aiden Stewart caught four passes for 44 yards.

Mary Persons 21, Spalding 0

The Bulldogs extended their region winning streak to 17 games, and got started early. J.T. Hartage calmly dumped it to Quen Wilson in the left flat, and Wilson went 79 yards on the second play of the game. Spalding had a score nullified by a penalty. Wilson scored from a yard out nine minutes later, and Hartage finished it with a 37-yard scoring pass to Antoine Davis with 7:27 left in the half.

Upson-Lee’s sophomore quarterback outdueled Perry’s sophomore quarterback, and the Knights’ defense was on point. Perry’s Davion Ross followed a blocked punt with a scoop-and-score to tie it at 14, and the Knights followed with a fake punt, Thad Webb’s long run setting up a 7-yard run by Demeke Colbert for a 21-14 lead late in the first half. Webb then returned the second-half kickoff 93 yards for a score, and QB Jake Davis threw his third TD pass of the game, to Colbert from 18 yards. Perry scored on a short run and added a 28-yard field goal to get within 35-24 late in the third. U-L’s defense bowed up deep in its own territory twice in the second half and held on. Davis broke the school record with 272 yards on 16-of-21 passing, with three TDs. Webb had 137 yards receiving and two scores, and Daymon Thomas had nearly 90 yards rushing. Rucker completed less than 30 percent of his passes for 297 yards.
