Thursday's Braves Report (postgame edition)

Teheran solid, offense quiet

Julio Teheran got the loss, but was solid again as the Braves fell 4-1 to the Mets.

Teheran went six innings, gave up two hits, one run, with five strikeouts and two walks. Reliever Jesse Biddle followed and gave up two runs in a third of an inning.

Met pitchers gave up six hits, one more than the Braves. Atlanta pitchers fanned 10, New York eight. But the Braves were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven.

Ronald Acuna topped Atlanta’s offense with two hits.

Getting the day off, sorta

Swanson still questionable

Early-season success led to late-season success

Strides on defense may be overlooked

Rest of season

Friday, 7:05 p.m., at Philadelphia, FSSO

Saturday, 7:05 p.m., at Philadelphia, FSSO

Sunday, 3:05 p.m., at Philadelphia, FSSO

From beat writers Gabe Burns/Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mark Bowman/MLB.com, and David O’Brien/The Athletic on Twitter (and others when notable)

Freeman and Inciarte will rest tonight. Flaherty is at first base. Acuna will be in center, while Duvall gets a start in left field./MB

Braves aren't gonna play the Wild Card winner; ATL is 3 wins behind both Cubs and Brewers with only 4 games to play./DOB

Sean Newcomb's first full season in majors: 3.91 ERA, 159 strikeouts, 80 walks, 1.33 WHIP, .226 opponents average across 163.1 innings. He made 30 starts, which was his goal entering season/GB

For the LCS, that's the case. Wild card can't have home-field advantage for LCS. However, for the World Series the team with the best regular season record has home-field advantage regardless of whether wild card or division winner./DOB

Freddie Freeman is off today, but Snit anticipates he'll pinch hit or sub in later. So he's not really off./GB

Lucas Duda has a stiff back. Nothing serious. Expected to be OK for tomorrow./GB

By going Folty (Friday), Sanchez (Sat.) and Gausman (Sun.) for this weekend's series in Philly, the Braves have given themselves flexibility to use Gausman or Sanchez in Game 2 of the NLDS. Gausman would be on regular rest for Game 2 and have an extra day of rest for Game 3/MB

Flaherty's one-out single in the third snapped a 0-for-22 skid that extended back to July 8. Given he'd provide a backup middle infielder, there's a chance he'll be on the NLDS roster if Swanson is unavailable./MB

Foltynewicz (.198) and Teheran (.199) rank 5th and 6th in the majors in opponents' avg., and 3-4 in the NL behind Scherzer (.188) and deGrom (.196)/DOB

Acuña, playing center tonight, just made a diving catch coming in that looked exactly like so many catches Andruw made like that. The form was eerily similar./DOB

 Biddle past 9 appearances: 6 1/3 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 7 BB, 6 K, 2 HR./DOB

From late Wednesday

Newcomb has allowed one hit and issued two walks through four scoreless (68 pitches, 44 strikes). He's recorded a first-pitch strike vs. 11 of 15 hitters. Entered tonight with a MLB-worst 53.6 first-pitch strike percentage. Has 10 called strikes and 9 whiffs w/in 49 4-seamers/MB

With Dansby out indefinitely, Charlie "Big Hits" in place to fill role he was thrust into last October with the Dodgers/DOB

As Touki kept himself in the mix for a postseason roster spot, Sobotka and Viz showed they might be the Braves’ 8th and 9th inning duo/MB
