Snitker gambles, and it pays off as Braves just miss a shutout

Macon gets a sweep, extends winning streak

          Macon and Lexington County got rained out in a doubleheader on Thursday, and decided to play one on Friday in Lexington County.

          At this point, Macon will play anywhere.

          Macon swept Lexington County 2-0 and 8-5 to up its winning streak to six entering the end of a road trip.

          The Bacon got single runs in the third and fourth in the first game.

          CJ Bush singled, and then stole second, third, and home for Macon’s first run.

          Brandon Michie (Mercer)) belted a homer in the fourth.

          Riley King had two hits in the opener. Dylan Spacke and Zach Reid teamed for the seven-inning, four-hit shutout.

          The Bacon scored four in the sixth of the nightcap to ease ahead and win despite being outhit 11-8.

          King had two hits and three RBI. Pitchers Logan Winder and Holden Nix struck out eight and walked one for Macon.

          Alex Canty and Alex Crotty singled, Canty scoring after stealing second and Crotty stealing two bases and coming in on a passed ball.

          Two batters later, King drove a two-run double to left.

          Macon, 13-11, visits Florence on Saturday and hosts Florence at 5 p.m. Sunday.

 

Georgia College’s Mattix making the transition to pro ball

          Logan Mattix is converting his Peach Belt player of the year season into a solid professional start in the Midwest.

Honor Roll

          Georgia College baseball player Jay Saunders was picked for the Ohio Valley Collegiate Summer League All-Star game. He’s hitting .255 with a homer and 12 RBI through 14 games. …

 

This Week’s Signings

          Lineman and tight end Bruce Guyton of Dublin will take his skills to the northern part of the state, signing Thursday with Shorter.

          The 6-2, 255-pound two-sport standout Guyton had 61 tackles as a senior, with 14 QB pressures and 12 tackles for loss. He was a Georgia Athletic Coaches Association first-team all-state defender, and led the team in snaps.

          The Hawks had a couple Central Georgia underclassmen on last year’s roster: fullback Artie Gardner of Warner Robins and defensive back Jaren Harris of Central. Peach County’s Ethan Mann joined on signing day.
