Russell Henley started the U.S. Open really well last week, struggled in the middle, and finished with a solid final nine holes.
There appears to have been a little momentum from how he finished that tournament.
Henley is very much in the hunt at the Travelers, Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. (on CBS).
The Stratford and Georgia grad is in second place after three rounds, 12 under par and four strokes behind Paul Casey.
Casey stormed through the third round with an 8-under 62 for a three-round total of 194, after a 65 and 67.
Henley found a bunker on 18, got out in very nice shape to par the hole and finish with a third-round 67, still 3 under and his highest round of the tournament.
Henley had one bogey and five birdies in the first round, and followed with a bogey-free second round with five birdies.
Henley was efficient on Saturday, with three birdies to go with 15 pars as he goes for
fourth career win. He was close to all but matching Casey, with at least three puts lipping around the cup.
J.B. Holmes, Anirban Lahiri and Brian Harman are next at 11 under.
Henley didn’t participate in last year’s Travelers, and finished tied for 11th in 2016.
