Georgia has tip-to-buzzer battle with Mercer, holds on

Concerns that the big stage might be too much for Mercer evaporated quickly.

But the Bears couldn’t get the shots to fall down the stretch, and Georgia held off Mercer 68-63 Saturday in a first-round NCAA Tournament women’s game in Athens.

The post game was huge for Georgia, which outscored Mercer 32-8 in the paint and had 11 more rebounds.

The Bears’ dream season ended at 30-3.
