If things go well for six Central Georgia high school basketball teams this week, they’ll get to play next week not far from home.
The GHSA announced the classification assignments for next week’s state championship games at the Macon Coliseum and Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion.
Two wins away from playing in Macon: Warner Robins’ boys, Peach County’s girls, Dodge County's girls, the boys from Westside and Central, and the boys from either Wilkinson County or Macon County.
Wilkinson County and Macon County would play in a semifinal at Valdosta State on Saturday if they win their quarterfinal games on Wednesday.
Macon is hosting Class 5A, 3A, 2A and 1A public.
A little extra travel didn’t affect the huge crowd that followed Upson-Lee’s boys to McCamish last year, the Knights finishing off a perfect season in front of an overflow crowd in Atlanta. They’ll head back with a two wins.
Baldwin is also alive in Class 4A boys, as are Stratford’s girls in Class A Private, 4A and 1a Private joining 6A and 7A in Atlanta.
Games are at 2, 4 6, and 8 p.m. at each site each day.
Tickets each day are $15, and can be purchased at the locations are at https://gofan.co/app/school/GHSA. Ticket purchased by the website must be shown at the gate on a smart phone.
Semifinals and finals are also available at NFHSnetwork.com/GHSA for a subscription fee, starting at $9.95 for a month.
