Prep notes: GHSA makes some reclass moves; state championship info, and ...

The GHSA's first mid-cycle reclassification is over, and had almost no impact on Central Georgia.

The only area region affected was Region 8-AA, where Monticello and Putnam County welcome Union County, down from 7-AAA, where it went 6-4 this season and 8-3 last season.

Eight schools were up for moving up, down, or over, with Flowery Branch's request to move from Region 7 to 8 in Class AAAA was denied after it was put in that class.

Jefferson, which lost Friday in the Class AAAA quarterfinals to Mary Persons, drops down to Class AAA. It moved up to AAAA because of an out-of-county enrollment rule installed in 2016.

Hampton returns down to AAAA, Hephzibah to AAA, and McNair to AA.

St. Vincent's and Bremen will return to Class AA after also appealing the attendance zone restriction.

One less than last year

Central Georgia is in close to the same semifinal situation as last year, but a little down.

The area had five teams in the semis in 2016: Northside, Mary Persons, Peach and Macon County.

Two of the four have returned, Mary Persons in Class AAAA and Peach County in AAA.

Tattnall in Class A private lost in the first round and Northside in 6A in the second round, while Macon County in Class A public fell in the quarterfinals.
