GHSA
Class 5A
Houston County 63, Lakeside-Evans 12
The visitors pushed the hosts into such a hole that Lakeside was happy to record a safety. Which cut the deficit to 28-5. The Bears (8-4) led 35-5 at halftime en route to their second straight 60-point game and third this season, their fifth of at least 50 points this year. Austin Stinson followed a Lakeside three-and-out with a 30-yard touchdown run early, Isaiah Mitchell then scoring from inside the 5. Antwann Hill hit Mitchell with a 46-yard score with three minutes left in the first quarter, which ended 21-3, the pair adding a 56-yard screen pass score late in the second quarter. Hill also connected with AJ Mathis for a second-quarter score. Hill and Mitchell hooked up for an 80-yarder to open the half, the Bears finally finishing the scoring with less than three minutes left when Hill hit Northeast transfer Kavon Conciauro for a bomb of more than 80 yards.
The Bears’ defense racked up nearly a half-dozen sacks in the first half. Houston County is in the quarterfinals for the seventh time in program history and second time under third-year head coach Jeremy Edwards.
Next: at 7/1 Milton (41-3 over Dutchtown)
Class 4A
Eastside 21, Perry 10
The visitors took the momentum immediately and pretty much kept it the rest of the night to end Perry’s state championship defense. Jayden Barr took the game’s opening kickoff on a bounce and went 91 yards for a touchdown. He went in from 5 yards out a little more than three minutes later for a 14-0 lead. A run of almost 30 yards on fourth and long by Barr set up a 38-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes into the second quarter. Perry got on the board in the final three minutes of the half, but the offense couldn’t take advantage of the defense throwing a second-half shutout, managing only a field goal late in the third quarter.
Marist 22, Jones County 14
One of the biggest wins in Jones County history was within sight, the Greyhounds (10-2) leading state power Marist 14-9 through three quarters, getting first-half scores on TD passes from Devin Edmonds to Zacarri Thomas and Zach Hurt, a 52-yard pass to Jaivon Solomon setting up the second one. The Greyhounds’ drives went 63 and 69 yards, on 7 and 9 plays. Jones County nearly had a huge flea-flicker for a touchdown, but the pass was a hair too long. The undefeated War Eagles, who had four straight three-and-outs in the first half finally took the lead early in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Marist took a Jones County punt and ate up from the 8:15 mark to just 1:53 left before scoring. The Greyhounds marched from their 20 to marist’s 22, but turned it over on downs with less than 40 seonds left. Marist ran for 225 yards on 49 carries with three touchdowns, completing only three passes for 32 yards. Jones County’s Devin Edmonds completed 24 of 35 for 299 yards and two touchdowns, but was sacked five times. The Greyhounds managed 47 rushing yards on 16 carries. It was Marist’s closest game of the year, and Jones County held the War Eagles to their fewest points.
Class AAA
North Hall 27, Upson-Lee 20
The Knights led 14-3 at halftime, and then held a 14-13 lead with a little more than nine minutes left. Bentavious Revere went 53 yards for a score, but Upson-Lee missed the PAT. North Hall tied it five minutes later, and took the lead on a circus catch and long play with 1:38 left. An interception inside the Trojans’ 40 sealed it for North Hall.

Peach County 37, Baldwin 3
The start was bad for the visitors, good for the home team. A Baldwin fumble on its first play was converted into a D.J Hudson 19-yard TD pass to Zion Hudson. Ashton Barton’s 45-yard run set up D.J. Hudson’s smooth 28-yard touchdown run. The Hudsons connected again to open the second quarter for a 20-0 lead. Baldwin had to settle for a field goal, then failed to do anything with a Peach County fumble. The Trojans and Hudsons kept rolling. Peach County is in the quarterfinals for the 18th time, 14th since 2000. The 540 points scored is the sixth-most in program history 17 behind the 2019 Trojans (11-21). Peach County has won eight games by at least 30 points.
