The hosts took some control of a one-possession game at halftime with a 9-0 start to the third quarter, keyed by defense. The Saints led 36-25 a few minutes into the third quarter and 40-31 entering the fourth. Baldwin’s 6-0 run midway through the quarter pulled the Braves (23-8) within 47-43, but that’s the closest Baldwin could get.

The visitors, boosted by a strong fan base, survived when J’Mari Greene’s 25-footer from the left wing was barely off and short at the buzzer. The Falcons take on BEST Academy at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Georgia College.

It was a two-possession game with about 90 seconds left, but Southwest (26-2)pulled away at the free-throw line after a crowd-rousing dunk by Rinardo Callaway on a feed low by a stumbling Chase Dupree with a little more than two minutes left. CJ Howard led Southwest with 20 points, with 11 from Dupree and Ashley (8 of 9 at the line) in a game that went back and forth all night until the final 90 seconds. Southwest faces Toombs County at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Georgia College.
