Bowdon 56, Westside 27
The Red Devils improved to 2-0 against Central Georgia teams, popping Macon County 56-7 two weeks ago. The two-time and defending GHSA Class A/Division II state champs turned an interception into an early lead, but Westside tied it early in the second quarter. That lasted less than two minutes, Bowdon scoring the first of its three second-quarter touchdowns for a 28-14 halftime lead. The Red Devils outscored the Seminoles 28-13 in the second half. Westside has given up 56 points for the second straight week.

East Laurens 49, Central 0
Quarterback Tylan Snead ran for four touchdowns – including an 83-yarder and passed for two to lead the Falcons. East Laurens head coach Jesse Hicks went 20-31 as Central’s head coach from 2012-16. It was the Falcons’ biggest win since 70-7 over Twiggs County to open the 2021 season, and largest shutout margin since a 36-0 win over Johnson County in 1991. They took advantage of three turnovers to score, while the Chargers moved the ball at times before suffering mistakes.

Northeast 47, Jefferson County 0
The Raiders (3-1/3-0) have scored more points each week this season, and kept that alive, handing Jefferson County (0-4/0-3) its fourth straight shutout this season. Northeast is 3-1 for the fourth time seven years under head coach Jeremy Wiggins.

Southwest 30, Bleckley County 29
Steve Robinson connected with Jamarea Watkins for a 68-yard touchdown with less than two minutes left, and then for the 2-point conversion and the lead for the Patriots (1-3/1-2) first real upset in years. It broke a seven-game losing streak against ranked teams in which the Patriots were outscored 277-67. Who was Southwest’s last ranked victim? Bleckley County, by 16-11 in 2019. And that win stopped a more brutal 10-game slide during which opponents won by an average of 48-13.
The Patriots led 14-0 at halftime, and the Royals (2-2/1-2) stormed back with 29 fourth-quarter points after scoreless third. They took the lead on Kam Everett’s 19-yard score early in the third quarter and extended it to 26-14 on another Everett run late in the third. Robinson’s long pass to Rinald Callaway and the conversion pulled the Patriots within 26-22, Ford Childers turning it back into a 7-point lead with a 35-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter. Bleckley County missed a field goal with a few minutes left, giving Southwest a final chance.
