Mary Persons to forfeit wins for ineligible player
This week’s Mary Persons game with Upson-Lee – if weather allows – will be mighty different than it was a few days ago.
Mary Persons, a top-10 Class AAA team now enters the game at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in Region 2 play after having to forfeit its three wins for using an ineligible player.
Who transferred from Upson-Lee.
The school failed to determine the player’s academic eligibility and didn’t submit proper paperwork. The Monroe County Reporter noted that Chauncey Powell – who had 5 catches for 87 yards and two scores – made the move from Upson-Lee.
The school will also be fined $1,500 and be on a year’s probation.
