Second day at Tour rough one for Henley

The front nine for Russell Henley veered down a familiar path, toward a day of struggles. But he veered back into some normalcy on the back nine to get closer to the middle fo the leaderboard at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

He, like about 20 players in the field of 30, won’t be contending, or pushing leader Scottie Scheffler, but he eased closer to perhaps a top-10 finish.

Henley, in a tie for 18th after dropping to near the bottom, bogeyed a third of the front nine, starting with No. 1 and finishing with No. 9, No. 7 in between and with a birdie on 9 for a 2-over start.

Then he reeled off seven straight birdies to close out with a pair of birdies. Oddly, the struggles didn’t including any of the three par 5s, which he birdied once and parred twice.

Only six players are within 10 shots – under the staggered scoring of Scheffler, Henley 15 back. In straight scoring, Henley is six behind Scheffler.

He tees off at 1:11 p.m. with Aaron Rai.
