Houston County’s Burress named national freshman of the year
Former Bleckley County standout earns All-America scholar honor
Lucy Wiegert, who racked up honors galore during her golf career at Bleckley County, is doing the same at Young Harris.
The 2022 Bleckley County graduate senior (this fall) was named to the 2023-24 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. The Sports and Recreation major had a 3.94 GPA as a sophomore.
Wiegert, who turns 20 on July 27, also was named to the Conference Carolinas all-conference team in April. She also has made the President’s List at Young Harris.
She was a three-time all-state pick in high school, and the state golf coaches’ player of the year for 2022.
