Another huge one for Houston County’s Burress
Six Central Georgia schools earn sportsmanship honor
The GHSA in cooperation with Georgia’s Electric Membership Corporations have handed out their yearly Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award, with a school from every region.
They’ve teamed up for the list since 2006: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.”
Central Georgia schools in their respective classifications: Veterans, West Laurens, Upson-Lee, Southwest, Bleckley County, Crawford County.

A weekend of big-name camps: Jackson, Ferguson, Walker
Three former Central Georgia high school football standouts will be back on familiar grounds this weekend hosting camps.
Westside grad Kareem Jackson, set to begin his 15th season in the NFL, is back at the Ed Defore Sports Complex on Saturday from 9-11 a.m.
Indications are that registration is closed.
Upson-Lee’s Travon Walker, the No. 1 pick in 2022 from Georgia, hosts his second camp to benefit the Travon Walker Foundation, open to boys and girls ages 11-18.
On Friday, Walker and former UGA teammates will be at the TownPlace Suites on Mercer University Drive across the street from Mercer’s campus and baseball and football stadiums from 6-8 p.m.
Cost for two Walker autographs is $50, with two for $25 of the Georgia players. Among those listed to attend, according to a post by the foundation: former Lamar County standout C.J. Allen, Jalon Walker, Warren Brinson, Gabe Harris, Jacorey Thomas, Sam M’Pemba, Branson Robinson, Jared Wilson, Raylen Wilson.
Proceeds go to the Travon Walker Foundation. Last year, the foundation donated $44,000 to UGA athletics.
The camp is at Upson-Lee Middle School – across from Matthews Field, home of the Knights - from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Register here.
Peach County grad Terrence Ferguson, who transferred from Alabama to Florida State, will host a free camp on Saturday at Peach County.
Among those expected to work the camp: Houston County’s Trey Hill (Cincinnati), Fort Valley State’s Shermar Bridges (Canadian Football League), and Peach County’s Kearis Jackson (Tennessee Titans).
