Jones County announces new head basketball coaches
A little more than two weeks after losing its girls and boys head basketball coaches, Jones County has hired new girls and boys head basketball coaches.
Jones County grad Takeo Gray takes over the girls program, while Willie Reese is the new boys head coach, the school announced in social media posts Tuesday night.
Gray graduated from Jones County in 1998, and has degrees from Fort Valley State and the University of Phoenix. The school’s announcement stated he has been an assistant at Jones County and Westside.
Reese has a lot of Georgia Tech running through his blood.
He played for head coach Bobby Cremins in the mid-1980s, the Carver-Atlanta grad earning four letters from 1985-89 and playing with Mark Price, John Salley, Tom Hammonds and Dennis Scott, among others.
He was the team’s top scholar-athlete twice, earning a bachelor’s in industrial management.
After five years in private business, Reese started his coaching career at Landmark Christian, going 87-35 in five seasons as head coach at Landmark Christian, also coaching cross country and winning two state titles, in 1995 and 1996.
He rejoined his alma mater as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech for six seasons and then director of operations for five years, working with the Yellow Jackets from 1999-2010.
Reese then became an assistant at Jonesboro, and head coach at Sandy Creek (2012-15), Meadowcreek (2015-16), Griffin (2016-19), and Lovejoy (2019-24)
They replace ChoRonda Harris and Buck Harris, who resigned late last month take the same positions at Northside.
