Central Georgia wrestlers will go for state titles on Saturday
No teams from Central Georgia are in serious contention for first, but seven wrestlers from area teams will go for state titles Saturday at the GHSA state wrestling meet at the Macon Coliseum.
Lamar County’s Clint Williamson and Trace Morton won, and advanced to final in Class A, as did Lucas Coley from Dublin.
Van Tane from Mary Persons, JT Bowers of West Laurens, Donovan Funsch from Perry, and Veterans’ Lucas Schafer will battle for state titles in their respective classifications and weight classes.
Competitors from four of those schools as well as East Laurens, Putnam County, Southwest, Dodge County, Upson-Lee, and Jones County are in the top six.
Four Central Georgia teams are in the top 10 in their classifications. Perry is fifth in 4A, Upson-Lee seventh in 3A, Jones County ninth in 5A, and Lamar County 10th in A.
Henley eases into top 20
A 3-under day lifted Russell Henley eight spots and into a tie for 20th at the Genesis Invitational.
He was 3 under through the front nine, but sandwiched bogeys around a birdie on the back to lose some momentum. He was half a foot from par on 12, and let a par chance slip away on 14, amid a few stretches of sluggishness.
