16 Central Georgia teams score on first day of GHSA state wrestling

          The state’s high school wrestling community has converged on the Macon Coliseum, with a day of GHSA wrestling in the books.

          Perry is off to the best start of Central Georgia teams, sitting in second in Class 4A with 47.5 points.

          Donovan Funch (285), Jaylen McIlrath (175), Blayson Jordan (132), Zykhi Sistrunk (113), and Mathew Kohlman (106) all won their opening matches. Advancing after going 2-0: Funsch, McIlrath, Jordan, and Sistrunk. Jamarion Rosser (150) is in the consolations.

          Jones County is seventh in 5A, with Will Agudelo (285), David Little (157), Arrie Martin (138), Aiden Lipford (126), Hunter McCleskey (113), and Landon Lewis (106) opening with wins, Agudelo and Martin going 2-0.

Henley off to decent start at Genesis

          Russell Henley’s first round at the Genesis Invitational in California was the same as 22 percent of the field.

          Henley is among 15 players tied for 28 after shooting a 1-under 70, closing the round with his second birdie.

          Patrick Cantlay is first, 7 under.
