Kaplan earns tennis industry merit award

Macon tennis icon Jaime Kaplan added to lengthy resume recently after being honored with a Racquet Sports Industry’s Champions of Tennis award.

The assorted honors to go “the many – often unheralded – heroes of this sport and business.”

The Stratford grad has worked at the Southern Tennis Foundation since 2022, while also coaching tennis at Stratford and helping organize and run the annual Kevin Brown/Russell Henley/Five Star charity golf tournament weekend each fall.

She was honored last spring for her 500th career win as Stratford’s head coach, where she landed after starting her coaching career at Tattnall.

That follow a pro career, mainly as a pro double player, that included a stop at all four Grand Slams, five times to Wimbledon and four times to the French Open.

She is currently in her third health battle since 2009, diagnosed a year ago with pancreatic cancer. Treatments and medication so far have been successful in keeping it under control. In 2009, she was diagnosed with leukemia and received a bone marrow transplant, and then in 2020 with hATTR amyloidosis.

Kaplan is a member of the Macon Sports Hall of Fame and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame, among others.
