Class 6A
No. 6 Houston County 42, Northside 14
Heavy underdog Northside, down to its No. 3 quarterback, made heavy favorite Houston County sweat for awhile. The Bears (6-1/1-1) got going late in the first half to tie it at 14, and then owned the second half 28-0. Ricky Johnson caught a 47-yard TD pass from A.J. Hill barely half a minute into the third quarter to break the tie, and the Bears needed almost seven minutes to score again, on Christian Stokes’ 5-yard run. Ryan Taleb added a 6-yard run and Recordo Tarver a 42-yard catch from Hill. The Bears outgained the Eagles 475-259 on 19 more snaps. Northside (3-4/1-1) did run 39 times for 222 yards, led by Da’veon Latimore’s 98 yards on 18 carries, his 28-yard TD run putting Northside up 7-0 at the 4:23 mark of the first quarter. The Bears were 26 of 37 for 283 yards and four touchdowns.
No. 4 Lee County 55, Veterans 16
Heavy underdog Veterans (3-4/0-2) had a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter, and was within 14-10 early in the second quarter against the Trojans (6-1/2-0). But host Lee County then got rolling, sparked by a blocked punt for a touchdown, and turned that four-point lead into a 29-10 advantage of halftime, and kept rolling. Standout running back Ousmane Kromah scored once on the ground and once on a reception.
Class 5A
Jones County 48, Ola 17
The Greyhounds (5-2/3-0) made a statement by rolling the No. 11 Mustangs (4-2/0-2), charging out to a 17-0 first quarter lead that grew to a whopping 31-3 at halftime. Devin Edmonds completed a nifty 26 of 32 – 81.2 percent – for 361 yards and six touchdowns with a pick. Tyler Stewart caught 11 passes for 176 yards and four scores. Six rushers combined for 207 yards on 22 carries.
Warner Robins 27, Union Grove 14
The Demons improved to 3-0 in region play and 4-3 overall, getting an early lead but not quite putting the winless Wolverines (0-7/0-3) away.
Class 4A
No. 4 Perry 41, Griffin 7
Ahmad Gordon got Perry (6-1/3-0) going with two first-quarter touchdown runs, and he joined Quentin Askin with second-quarter scoring rushes to go with Kory Pettigrew’s TD catch for a 34-0 halftime lead.
Spalding 42, Howard 34
Spalding (7-0/3-0) took advantage of turnovers to keep the scrappy Huskies at bay, Howard (3-4/0-3) turning a potential rout into a decent game. The Huskies trailed 28-7 after a Jags rushing TD with about three minutes left in the half, but scored on a run two minutes into the third quarter and then on a pass early in the fourth to pull within 28-20, missing the PAT. Spalding answered less than two minutes later for a 35-20 lead and added another one shortly after that, the Huskies getting back within a possession after two touchdown passes less than four minutes apart.
Westside 27, West Laurens 21
Kameron Braddy’s 5-yard score with about five minutes left put Westside (5-1/1-1) on top, only for the Seminoles to fail on the conversion. West Laurens (2-4/0-2) ate clock and drove, and had a first and goal inside the 10 with less than a minute left. On third and goal at the 2, Shannon Adkins was stopped after a yard gain. On fourth down, he lost his footing trying to cut and the Seminoles pounced on him for the huge goal-line stand. Westside was able to run out the clock from the 1 to survive.

Class 3A
No. 4 Mary Persons 49, Jackson 0
There was certainly no hangover for Mary Persons (6-1/1-0) after its epic with over A/I No. 1 Prince Avenue Christian against the Bulldogs most disliked rival. It’s the first shutout in the 81-game series since Jackson (1-6/0-1) stuffed Mary Persons two straight times, 7-0 in 1999 and 28-0 in 2000. The Bulldogs racked up the biggest win in series history, edging the Bulldogs’ 47-0 win in 1945 (source: GHSFHA). Duke Watson led Mary Persons (6-1/1-0) with TD runs of 7, 2, 9, 5, 7, and 27 yards, the Bulldogs turning three kickoff return fumbles into scores. Jackson (1-6/0-1) was shut out for the third time this season.
Upson-Lee 47, Pike County 0
Pike County (0-6/0-1) was so desperate for points, it tried a 59-yard field goal. Upson-Lee (6-1/1-0) turned that miss into a TD pass from Niko Wells to Jeremiah Searcy – after two penalties nullified two touchdowns – for a 21-0 early in the second quarter, JaQuan Bentley with two first-quarter touchdowns. Bentley scored again, and the Wells-Searcy combo hooked up again en route to a 41-0 halftime lead, the Knights (6-1/1-0) with a game’s worth of yards with 342, 219 from Bentley.
Class AA
ACE 48 Central 0
The Gryphons (6-1/3-1) were a rude homecoming opponent, racking up their fifth shutout of the season and second in a row, while cracking the 40-point mark for the sixth time in seven games. They forced a running clock with 21 points in the first quarter and 20 in the second, with four rushing and one passing touchdown for the evening, as well as a 40-yard punt return from Ace Hatcher and a 45-yard fumble return from Will Winters. Aaron Davis carried 10 times for 101 yards and a touchdown, Bryson Vincent adding 59 yards and two scores.
Jeff Davis 17 Dodge County 14
Dodge County dropped to 1-6/0-2 with its fifth single-digit loss, Jeff Davis improving to 4-3/2-1.
Putnam County 52, Glenn Hills 8
The War Eagles hit a season-high in points to improve to 5-2/4-0, Glenn Hills droping to 1-6/1-3.
Washington County 21 Westside-Augusta 13
A late second-quarter touchdown put Washington County (3-4/2-2) up 14-13 at the half, and the Golden Hawks added a score two minutes into the third quarter, and then and watched the defense keep the hosts (3-4/2-2) at bay the rest of the way.

Class A/Division I
Bleckley County 42, Dublin 28
The Royals beat the Irish for the second time in 18 meetings, and did so at the Shamrock Bowl. Bleckley County (5-2/1-0) took a 14-7 halftime lead after a scoreless first quarter and doubled it to 28-14 after three. Kam Hampton’s 6-yard score 53 seconds into the fourth quarter pulled the Irish within seven. A long kickoff return by Iverson Baker set up a Joshua Stanley 2-yard touchdown less than two minutes later. The Royals sealed it with a 70-yard scoop-and-score by Stanley with 6:44 left, putting up the most points by an opponent at the Shamrock Bowl since Johnson Count’s 42-35 win in mid-October of 2021.
Heard County 56, Crawford County 22
A 35-point second quarter put Heard County (2-5/1-0) in control of the battle to stay out of fourth place in the four-team region. That put the Braves up 49-16 at halftime. The Eagles (1-6/0-1) managed only 228 yards in total offense.
Jasper County 39, East Laurens 32
The Purple Hurricanes (5-2) won their third straight, while the Falcons (2-6) lost their third straight. Jasper County overcome a five-point halftime deficit, thanks in large part to Josiah Cotterell returning the second-half kickoff for a touchdown. Jalen Stewart ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns, and Chevy Sands was 8 of 11 for 132 yards and a score, plus 56 yards on the ground. The defense added interceptions from Kaidon Whidby and Randy Williams to help Jasper County to its best start since 1996.
Class A/Division II

The Warriors (3-3/2-0) won their second straight, and second straight by shutout, while the Cobras fell to 0-6/0-2.

Hawkinsville’s defense stopped the Bulldogs, who went first in overtime, with a fourth-down sack, and got a 4-yard run to win it.
Macon County 42, Central-Talbotton 6
The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 and 2-2, while Central fell to 1-6 and 0-4.
GIAA
Class AAA
FPD 30 Mount de Sales 6
Despite losing standout quarterback Jakhari Williams to injury, the further banged- up Vikings (4-2-1/1-0) didn’t have much trouble, thanks in part to a defense that held the winless Cavs to 33 yards on 26 carries. QB Zavion DeShazier did hit 16 of 29 for 127 yards. A failed conversion run kept MdS (0-6/0-1) from taking an 8-7 lead late in the first quarter, only for Breck Griffin to go in from 11 yards out two minutes later to get the Vikings going. Hayden Aulds made a nice catch of Major Simmons’ pass for a 20-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter. A high punt snap earned safety point three minutes into the third, and Simmons sealed it 11 seconds into the fourth with a 52-yard run. Aulds ran 18 times for 102 yards, Williams with two rushes and two pass attempts before he was injured. Mount de Sales couldn’t do much with three interceptions.
Strong Rock 31, Westfield 26
Strong Rock marched out to a 21-0 halftime lead, and then withstood the Hornets’ comeback. Brock Johnson’s scoop and score pulled Westfield (3-4/0-1) within five.
Tattnall 34 Stratford 7
Antone Johnson ran for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass and then crossed the line of scrimmage for a big defensive night to lead Tattnall (3-4/1-0) to the rivalry win. He carried 16 times for 154 yards, leading the Trojans to a 371-yard night in total offense, 79 more than the Eagles (4-3/0-1), held to their second-lowest point total of the season (22-3 to defending state champ St. Anne-Pacelli, a 50-35 winner over Tattnall). Caden Faulk was 4 or 6 for 93 yards and a TD and interception. Ayden Dunn added 10 carries for 70 yards and a 1-yard scoring run to put Tattnall up 27-7 early in the fourth.
