A familiar name leads the latest Macon Touchdown Club honorees.

Back of the Week: Junior running back Nick Woodford of Northeast, ran 28 times for 310 yards and five touchdowns in the Raiders’ 52-26 win over previously undefeated ACE in a big Region 2-AA meeting.

Lineman: Senior lineman Ben Barton of FPD graded out at 95 percent after nine pancake blocks, adding two tackles in the 28-14 win over Pinewood Christian

Lineman: Linebacker/tight end Nikee Walker, a junior at Central, had 9.5 tackles, force a fumble, and graded out at 91 percent to go with a 23-yard kickoff return in the 41-20 loss to Rutland.

Ex-Tech assistant, well-traveled coach McCollum visiting Macon Touchdown Club

Andy McCollum, in his 42nd years of college coaching, is Monday night’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.

The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30. Membership for the year is $250.

Talk-show host Bill King is next week’s speaker, followed by Georgia Southern head coach Clay Helton.

One of the more colorful and blunt members of the Touchdown Club’s speaker list, McCollum started coaching at Middle Tennessee State in 1981, nearly two decades before he’d become MTSU’s head coach, from 1999-2005.

The Marietta High and Austin Peay graduate has coached at UTEP, Baylor, N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Western Carolina, and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, and was an analyst at Buffalo for two seasons. That’s all before his current job as head coach at Sewanee, a Division II program northwest of Chattanooga.
