This slugfest was capped by seven runs in the top of the seventh and six in the bottom half, with the teams combining for nine errors. Howard led 6-3 after one, and Rutland tied it with four in the fourth. Nakeria Mallory, Anna Nash, and Madison Brown each had three hits and combined for 11 runs and three RBI for Howard, with Trinity Williams and Janesia Jackson adding two hits each. Adriana Kadian went 4 for 5 with four runs for Rutland, Zaria Blassingame and Taylor Brackett with three hits each, and two hits from Hannah Huckabea, Gracien Newberry, Maddie Coley, and Aubrey Moore.

Henley rebounds with quality first round
So far, Russell Henley has a short memory.
A stunning stumble on the final three holes last week at the Wyndham Championship appears to be in Henley’s rearview mirror, at least through the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first PGA Tour playoff tournament.
Henley is one of 19 players tied for 15th after 18 holes at TPC Southwind in Memphis.
The Stratford grad shot a 3-under 67 and is in a pack with three top-10 players.
Henley had a noisy front nine, opening with three straight birdies followed by consecutive bogeys, and then a birdie on No. 9. He hit only two of seven fairways
The back nine segment was quieter, with nothing but pars for the first eight before a day-ending birdie.
He averaged 283 yards on drives, 66th in the 70-player field. He’s 18th in putting, and in the top 20 in putting, shots gained around the green, shots gained total, and putts per greens in regulation.
Henley tees off at 12:15 p.m. on No. 10 on Friday.
