Alumni Update

Houston County pair in portal, from Mercer, Georgia State

Mercer and Georgia State rode the talents of a few Houston County alums, but that’s changing.

Mercer’s Treyson Hughes and Georgia State’s Cameron Jones have announced they’re entering the transfer portal.

Hughes, a sophomore, was a first-team All-SoCon pick by both coaches and media. He’s first in the conference with a .504 on-base percentage and in runs scored, tied for second with 86 hits, third with a .387 average, eighth with 52 RBI, and 10th in slugging percentage.

He originally committed to West Virginia.

Jones was a multi-position player at Georgia State.

The junior hit .336, 15th in the Sun Belt, with 15 extra-base hits, plus 37 stolen bases, second in the Sun Belt. Jones had a 2.04 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 17.2 innings, going 2-2 with a save, and giving up a .200 opponents average.

Jones set the Panthers’ stolen base record this season. His brother Justin played at Georgia State from 2015-18.
